Full Story
Sri Lanka experiences complex weather patterns driven by two separate monsoons, meaning there is almost always a sunny corner of the island to enjoy if you know where to go.
- High Season (December to March): This is the most popular time to visit the southern and western beaches, as well as the Cultural Triangle and Hill Country, due to dry, sunny days.
- Shoulder Season (April, September, October): April brings the vibrant Sinhalese New Year festivities. September is an excellent time for visiting the East Coast where the weather is often pristine.
- Low Season (May to August): The southwest monsoon arrives, making this the ideal window to explore the drier northern and eastern regions like Trincomalee.
Wildlife Timings
If you are coming for a safari, Yala National Park is fantastic from February onwards. Whale watching on the south coast is prime between November and April, while the eastern waters are better in August and September.
